Langhorne, PA - The women's tennis team split this past weekend against Rosemont College and Cedar Crest College.

On Friday, the Highlanders took on the Ravens of Rosemont College. Last year, Rosemont squeaked out a 5-4 victory. Things looked to be going in a similar direction when the Ravens took the opening doubles match, 8-5. But the tandems of Dana Hartman/Meghan Whittington and Liana Jensen/Emily Van Teyens made sure Cairn held a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Hartman and Whittington pulled out a solid 8-3 win, while Jensen and Van Teyens won by default when their opponents were unable to field a healthy team.

In singles play, the Highlanders took 4 out of 6 match ups to secure a 6-3 win on the afternoon. Senior Tara Munro convincingly won 6-0, 6-2 to lead the way in the third spot, after Rosemont took wins in the top two spots. Meghan Whittington in the fourth spot and freshman Liana Jensen in the fifth earned a point each for the Highlanders.

Jensen's 6-0, 6-0 victory was the first of her collegiate career.

The win was the first of the season for the Highlanders but more importantly, gets the team's first conference win of the season.

The ladies returned to the court the very next day, playing another conference opponent in Cedar Crest College on Saturday.

The Falcons opened up a 2-0 lead in doubles play before freshman duo Liana Jensen and Emily Van Teyens took the third doubles spot match, 9-7. The two freshman are starting to build a strong partnership in the third spot.

Cairn took the 3-2 lead early in singles play when Dana Hartman won 7-6(7-4), 6-2 and Hannah Maddox added another point with a default win. Cedar Crest's Amy Frey couldn't complete her match. The Falcons responded though by claiming all four of the bottom spots with wins. Cedar Crest claimed the 6-3 win over the Highlanders.

Following the weekend of action, Cairn now sits at 1-4 overall, 1-3 in conference play. Cedar Crest is now 1-2.

The Highlanders now have a week off before they travel to Baltimore, MD to take on Notre Dame (MD) next Saturday.
