Knights Chop Highlanders

Langhorne, Pa - In their conference opener, Cairn University's women's basketball team succumbed to the Knights of Neumann University.

Box Score

Cairn's Hannah McCardle and Haley Weber led all scorers with 18 and 15 points respectively, but Neumann had 16 different players record at least 2 points. Colleen Hinde and Jessica Schlesman paced the Knights with 10 points each.

In an improvement from a night ago, the Highlanders had a decent shooting percentage throughout the game, shooting 46% in the first half and 40 percent in the second half. It was the number of shots that made the difference though. Neumann pulled down 22 offensive rebounds which led to 14 second chance points and gave the Knights a decisive advantage in field goal attempts, 81 to 49. Overall, the Highlanders were outrebounded 43 to 19.

Haley Weber shot 3-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. McCardle had a game-high 7 made field goals. Freshman point guard Amie Eppolito chipped in with 10 points of her own, while also recording an early career-high of 5 assists. Erin Greenwood tied for the game-high in rebounds with 7.

Early proceedings were fairly close for the opening 6 minutes, with the Knights clinging to a 11-9 lead. Neumann, however, would go on a 28-6 run over the course of the next 10 minutes, jumping out ahead 39-17, breaking the game wide open. Neumann led 47-28 at halftime.

The second half was much of the same, minus a massive run from the visitors. Neumann led by 19 at halftime and slowly stretched the lead to a 32 point victory, 87-55.

The defeat puts Cairn at 0-4 overall, 0-1 in conference play. Neumann improves to 1-3 overall, 1-0 in the CSAC.

The ladies will get a much needed few days off with their next game not coming until Monday, December 3rd. That game will be at Immaculata at 6pm.
