Dallas, PA - Cairn University's women's volleyball team edged pasted Misericordia in a five set thriller, 3-2.

The host jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-18, powered by 13 team kills and only committing 3 attack errors. The Highlanders responded in style, jumping out to a 10-3 lead and thumping the Cougars in the second set, 25-14, to even things up. Cairn carried its 2nd set momentum into the third frame, taking a 2-1 lead with a convincing 25-15 set win.
Misericordia was far from finished though, as the Cougars nudged their way back into the game with a tense 25-23 win, evening things back up once again.
It was the visitors though who would make the most of their chances in the 5th and final set. Although Misericordia only committed 2 attack errors on 16 attacks, the Highlanders unleashed 26 attacks, lashing 8 kills and committing only 1 error while bursting to a 6-1 lead. Cairn would seal the win with a 15-9 score in the 5th.
Continuing to prove that they'll be no "sophomore-slump" for her,
Brigid Shehan was feeling the magic on the night, blasting 18 kills with her 20 digs. Only Misericordia's Cailin McCullion had more with 20 kills. Both
Abbie Keating and
Emily Mayer also made it into double figures, notching 13 and 10 kills respectively. Mayer is coming off a career-best week in which she notched several career-best totals.
Erin Greenwood was one assist away from reaching the 40 mark, collecting 39 helpers on the night. She also racked up 20 digs on defense.
The Highlanders continue to improve and impress on the season, moving to 14-8 on the season. The University of Scranton awaits next this Thursday at 7pm.
