Women's Volleyball Clamps Down on Notre Dame; Claims 3rd Straight Win

Langhorne, PA - Cairn University's women's volleyball claimed a 3-0 victory over Notre Dame (MD) on Thursday night, led by Shehan and Mayer.

Box Score

For Cairn, both Brigid Shehan and Emily Mayer are enjoying breakout seasons and both tallied 10 kills in three sets of play against conference foe Notre Dame (MD). Junior Erin Greenwood averaged 10 assists a set, finishing with 30 total as the Highlanders improved to 18-10 overall and 7-3 in conference with one more CSAC game to go. That match will be crucial for the Highlanders to maintain their spot in 4th place or better and ensuring home court advantage in the first-round of the playoffs. This Saturday, Cairn faces off against Rosemont College.

In tonight's action, Cairn found itself down 3-4 early on in a match they were expected to win. But while the crowd was still strolling into the Mason Activity Center gymnasium, the Highlanders reeled off 9 straight points opening up a 12-4 lead. At that point, it was all over. Cairn took the first set 25-7 and swiftly moved on to the second set.

In the second set, another early streak from the Highlanders put them firmly in the drivers seat. Up 3-2, Cairn went on a 7-0 run to create a 10-2 gap and eventually strolled to a 25-14 win. In the night's final period, Notre Dame avoided any Cairn streaks of five points or more but it still didn't stem the flow of Highlander attacks as Cairn would seal the deal with a 25-13 win; sweeping Notre Dame 3-0.

Cortney Silvis paced the Gators with 6 kills.

Ashleigh Colomina tidied things up on the defensive end with a team-leading 14 digs.
