Cairn Stopped By Scranton

Scranton, PA - The Royals of Scranton University swept the Highlanders in straight sets on Thursday night, 3-0.

In three straight sets, 25-19, 25-13, 25-22, the Royals took care of business in front of their home fans on Senior Night. With four seniors playing their final home match, the Royals had all the motivation they needed. 

Cairn's women's volleyball team didn't play bad, they just didn't match the Royals intensity or efficiency. The Highlanders only committed 15 errors on 104 attacks, with 26 kills, but the Royals were more lethal. On 110 total attacks, Scranton blasted 41 kills and only 12 errors. Scranton also held an advantage in service aces, 8-3.

Julia Crily led all players with 15 kills followed closely by teammate Jenell McFadden who had 14. Brigid Shehan led the way for Cairn with a 10 kill effort.

Erin Greenwood registered 19 assists, while Scranton utilized a dual-setter system with Emily Keim and Juli Woods combining for 31 assists. Greenwood came up with 15 digs and one solo block on defense.

For Scranton, Kelly Nolan had 3 solo blocks and one block assist. Marissa Every logged 18 digs.

Cairn moves to 14-9 on the season with a conference trip to Immaculata coming up this weekend. The Highlanders defeated Immaculata 3-1 in 2011.
