LANGHORNE, PA - As far as beginnings go, it doesn't get much sweeter than this.
The tennis team completed a feat that hasn't been achieved in well over a decade Saturday afternoon as the group picked up their second straight win to open the season, defeating Polytechnic University in convincing fashion.
But Saturday's triumph wasn't just another win, it was an 8-1 runaway that saw all six singles players come out victorious over their opposition. The victory also signals an important mark in that it gives the Crimson Eagles as many wins as the team experienced in all of 2007 and 2008... combined.
There was only one loss on the afternoon as Hannah Maddox and Liz Stafford were upset during their doubles stint with the Blue Jay combo of Ariel Zeig and Stephanie Weldon. However, both players responded in admirable fashion following the loss, securing victories during solos play to help aid in the triumph.
"After their doubles loss both Maddox and Stafford demonstrated a great deal of character and were able to persevere," praised head coach Ken Wilson. "Their ability to bounce back was key and helped solidify the win for us this afternoon."
The Crimson Eagles improve to 2-0 with the win while Polytechnic falls to 0-1 on the year.
The tennis team will look to continue their current winning streak into their match with Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday at 4:00 pm. Game time against the Chargers is set for 4:00 pm.
