FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The women's volleyball team collected their second straight 3-2 triumph to kick off the season Friday afternoon but fell later on in the day, 3-0, to Meredith College.

The Crimson Eagles picked up right where they left off during their opening match with Sweet Briar College, overcoming all odds yet again to manage their second straight come-from-behind triumph to kick off the season.

Down 2-1 in their contest with the Vixens, PBU once again rallied to negate an early deficit, winning the final two frames in convincing fashion by scores of 25-13 and 15-9. The Crimson Eagles limited Sweet Briar to just 10 kills in 49 swings during the final two sets while the crimson and black enjoyed a collective .385 hitting clip during the final tally.

However, PBU's trend of late-game drama was negated in their second contest of the day against Meredith College. The Avenging Angles forced the Crimson Eagles into a .070 attack percentage while allowing just 21 kills throughout all three sets. Meredith also enjoyed seven service aces during the contest, holding a 43-21 margin in spikes throughout play.

The Avenging Angles demonstrated control throughout their 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 win.

"Meredith was tough team," commented head coach Julie Brubaker following their bout with the Angles. "However, we definitely did not serve or pass to our potential. We'll have to use this match as a learning tool moving forward."

Senior Carly Plank led with way with 24 kills,19 digs, and six aces throughout the two matches, while sophomore Rachel Calderon posted 17 spikes and 37 stops on the defensive end. Rookie Katie Toewe added 30 digs for the afternoon while Rebekah Morrison charted 54 assists and three aces.

PBU will continue play in North Carolina on Saturday, going up against Agnes Scott College at 10:00 am before taking on host Methodist University at 2:00 pm.
