BRIDEWATER, VA - A trip down south couldn't help the women's volleyball shake a recent losing skid as the Crimson Eagles finished the weekend 0-3 against top-level competition.
On Friday, PBU faced a team that finished 30-5 a year ago and entered their match-up against the Crimson Eagles with an unblemished 11-0 mark. Frostburg State University adequately demonstrated their why they were ranked as high as fifth in the region last year, running past PBU by a 3-0 count on Friday.
The Bearcats cruised past PBU 25-8, 25-13, 25-13, collecting their ninth sweep of the year in the process. Lindsay Dager had four kills for PBU while Katie Toewe chipped in with 10 digs.
On Saturday, PBU's fortune would fail to change. Washington and Lee churned out a convincing 25-7, 25-17, 25-13 victory over the crimson and black, improving their record to 6-1 on the year. Dager amassed a team high five kills on a .714 hitting percentage and Towe once again led the Crimson Eagles defensively, ending the contest with 10 digs.
In PBU's final match of the weekend, Bridgewater College dished the visitors their fifth consecutive loss in shutout fashion. The host squad triumphed by scores of 25-20, 25-11, 25-21. Carly Plank posted 11 kills, two aces, and nine digs in the losing effort while Erika Catalano added nine stops defensively.
PBU stands 5-8 on the year following the weekend's events.
The Crimson Eagles will look to get back on track this Tuesday during a conference match-up with the College of Notre Dame. The volleyball squad will take on the Gators in the Mason Activity Center at 7:00 pm.
