Tennis Squad Triumphant in Season Opener

LANGHORNE, PA
- It took a total team effort Wednesday afternoon for the women's tennis team, but by the time the final crack of a racket was heard, the Crjmson Eagles were able boast of an accomplishment that hadn't previously been achieved in over 10 years.

PBU fought off a brutal heat wave and overcame an untimely injury to help manufacture the program's first opening-season win in nearly a decade. The Crimson Eagles buried visiting Baptist Bible College 7-2 on a sun-soaked afternoon, pocketing five singles victories despite losing their number two singles player, Alicia Kline, to an injury.

"I am very pleased with the way our two freshman played today, particularly in light of the circumstances," said head coach Ken Wilson following Wednesday's match. "Rebecca [Hardman] and Dana [Hartman] both got a "W" their first time out at the college level, which is an encouraging sign, to say the least."

It was a test for several singles players as the three through seven spots were bumped up due to Kline's inability to play. Perhaps no showing was more impressive, however, than Amanda Treacy's 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the six spot after getting the nod to compete in singles play due to the surrounding circumstances.

Junior Katelyn Wilson continued her dominance from a year ago at the number one singles position, downing her opponent 6-2, 6-1. Hannah Maddox posted a drama filled 6-4, 8-6 win in the three hole, and Rebecca Hardman and Tara Munro collected triumphs at the four and five spots, respectively.

"All the girls from last season showed growth and determination," Wilson continued. "I was pleased with our effort today and am looking forward to what the rest of the season holds."

In doubles play, the host group received victories from the tandem of Brealyn Stillman and Treacy while the combo of Meghan Whittington and Dana Hartman proved successful as well.

In an odd twist, Wednesday's match against the Defenders will count as a non-conference affair since the squads will match up for their official CSAC match 10 days from now.

PBU moves to 1-0 with the win while Baptist falls to 0-1.

The Crimson Eagles will look to make it two straight at home on Saturday when the group takes on Polytechnic University at 1:00 pm.
