The Crimson Eagles handled Baptist Bible College Monday evening using a four from seven effort from long-range in the second stanza to help boost the host squad to a victory over their counterpart, 61-50.
Their reward for slipping past the Defenders? A second date with Baptist later this week.
With Monday's game the determining factor on who would secure home court come NCCAA East Regional Playoff time on Thursday, both groups were all-too aware of the importance of Monday's preview. The simple mathematics of it came down to the following summary: a win on Monday equates the enjoyment of one's hometown crowd on Thursday.
PBU earned that right during their most recent affair, utilizing a 16 for 21 showing from the free throw line to help propel the Crimson Eagles past the Defenders despite both groups knocking down the same amount of shots from the field for the game (19). The host squad's efficiency from 15 feet proved to be the difference-maker on a night when PBU never trailed during the final 20 minutes.
Playing for the final time in the Mason Activity Center during the regular season, senior Dani Norton charted a 28 point, seven rebound effort in what marks PBU's fifth triumph of the year. Junior guard Careth Herron added 13 points and five boards and fourth-year forward Linsdey Fornwalt chipped in with eight points.
With the regular season officially concluded, the Crimson Eagles will host Baptist Bible again on Thursday for a second straight showing with the Defenders. Tip-off time is to be determined.
