LANGHORNE, PA - Anytime Baptist Bible College and Philadelphia Biblical University square off, it's going to be a war to the finish. Saturday's bout with the Defenders proved to be no different.
Unfortunately, the Crimson Eagles came out on the short end of the stick during their most recent struggle over the weekend, falling to BBC 3-1 in what marks another epic battle in the historic rivalry.
The Defenders, who came into Saturday's contest having lost four straight clashes with their counterpart, erased their recent losing streak against PBU by overcoming the visitors 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.
In a grind-it-out type battle that didn't necessarily contain much elegance or flair, Baptist was able to suppress the Crimson Eagles into a .032 hitting percentage for the match, a number that signals the squad's second lowest mark of the year. But it wasn't necessarily pretty for the host group either.
PBU played solid defense throughout the four sets, forcing BBC into 32 attack errors throughout while limiting the Defenders to a mediocre .083 hitting clip. The host squad also faltered with 10 service errors but managed to overcome some of their mistakes powered by 13 aces and a 47-27 edge in kills for the day.
The Crimson Eagles received a career high mark of 24 digs from rookie libero Erika Catalano while Rachel Calderon added 20. Carly Plank added 8 kills, 13 digs, and 3 aces and Lindsay Dager added 8 kills and 3 service aces.
The Crimson Eagles slip to 8-12 on the year while Baptist Bible improves to 12-9.
The volleyball team will continue their schedule next Tuesday during a road date with Lancaster Bible College. Game time against the Chargers is 6:00 pm.
