LANGHORNE, PA - The women's basketball team continued their recent trend of winning ballgames within NCCAA East Regional play Thursday night as the Crimson Eagles sprinted past Lancaster Bible College 71-56.
During a match-up that featured both squads from last season's East Region Championship game, PBU came out of the gates early against their counterpart, rolling out to a 20 point edge by the time the first half had expired.
But any comfort zone the host squad enjoyed during the opening period was quickly erased early in the second stanza as the Chargers would demonstrate resiliency from the get-go. Despite shooting just 30.8 percent from the floor for the game, Lancaster would cut the deficit to as little as eight deep into the contest before running out of steam down the stretch.
The Chargers wound up punishing the Crimson Eagles on the offensive glass as the visitors snagged 13 offensive rebounds for the game. PBU, however, would counter with a 19-26 effort from the charity stripe, a number that proved to be perhaps the difference-maker in the final outcome.
Thursday's win marks PBU's eleventh straight over their longtime rival, with LBC's last triumph in the series coming back in early 2003.
The Crimson Eagles improve to 3-10 on the season while Lancaster Bible slips to 2-12.
The basketball team will look to produce their first back-to-back wins this Saturday when the group hosts Centenary College at 2:00 pm.
