Make it Two Straight

LANCASTER, PA - It's been several years since the women's tennis team has collected two wins in a season. It's been many more since they've won two in a row.

But that history was erased Tuesday as the Crimson Eagles not only pulled off their second win of the year, but also their second consecutive triumph as well.

PBU escaped with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Lancaster Bible College to boost the club over the .500 mark. However, Tuesday's performance didn't come without a heavy dose of drama.

Down 4-3 with two doubles matches left to go, the tandem of Katelynn Wilson and Hannah Maddox slugged out an 8-6 victory to even things at four-apiece. In the last and ultimately match-deciding contest, the combo of Jocelyn Palmer and  Liz Stafford found themselves deadlocked at 8-8, moving the group into a pro set with Lancaster's Kelsey Scott and Michelle Ringler in a winner-takes-all type situation.

Things would unravel early with Palmer and Stafford falling 3-0 off the start. But a string of seven straight, entirely clutch points would propel the combo to victory, ultimately sealing the deal for the Crimson Eagles.

"Our girls performed well at every level," head coach Ken Wilson said following the match. "We performed well under pressure and made each point count."

Wilson kicked things off with a dominating performance in the number one singles position, blowing to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to mark her second individual win of the season. Liz Stafford grinded out a 4-6, 6-0, 11-9 tiebreaker triumph in the second spot, and Palmer collected the only other win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the third position.

The Crimson Eagles improve to 2-1 on the year.

PBU will compete in their first conference match of the season Thursday afternoon when the group heads to Aston, PA to go up against Neumann University at 4:00 pm.
