ASTON, PA - If there would ever be a time to keep a streak alive, it'd no-doubt be while opening up your conference schedule against one of the top schools in the division.
But unfortunately for PBU, the Crimson Eagles recent string of success ran out Thursday night as the group fell on the road to Neumann University during their first conference contest of the season.
"The girls did play well but the power and speed of Neumann somewhat overwhelmed us," said head coach Ken Wilson. "I expect it will take some time for us to adjust to the level of play within the conference, but I think we'll get there."
The Crimson Eagles managed just a single victory for the afternoon as number one singles player Katelynn Wilson picked up her third straight individual triumph of the season, overcoming the Knights' Ali DeTolla 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.
Things weren't so smooth for the visitors the rest of the way, however, as PBU failed to pick up any other victories. Brealyn Stillman fell 6-2, 6-2 in the second singles spot and Jocelyn Palmer dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Hannah Maddox lost 8-2 and Tara Munro fell by a 8-0 count. Rachel Nelson, in the sixth and final singles spot, fell 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, the tandem of Wilson and Maddox lost 8-3 and Palmer and Liz Stafford came up short in an 8-2 loss. Stillman and Meghan Whittington were shutout in the final partner's match, 8-0.
Both teams sit at 2-2 on the year following Thursday's results.
The Crimson Eagles will grab their travel bags this Saturday when the group heads to Alvernia University to take on the Crusaders in Reading at 1:00 pm.
