MADISON, NJ - In their final regular season tune-up before postseason play kicks off, the women's volleyball team split matches Wednesday, cruising past Manhattanville College before getting tripped up by Fairleigh Dickinson Florham later in the evening.
After a somewhat rocky start, the Crimson Eagles pounced on Manhattanville in the second set, eventually leading to a 3-0 sweep of the Valiants. Scores were 26-24, 25-9, 25-21.
Besty Ranck posted 34 assists and Carly Plank finished with a game-high mark of 16 kills. Rachel Calderon added 10 spikes and Kay Lynn Zeiset contributed 17 digs and three aces. Tanya Jendrek carded 10 digs and three aces in the win for PBU.
Opening up with a triumph in the first set during their second match of the night, momentum quickly turned on the Crimson Eagles throughout the remainder of play. Rolling to a 25-15 win in the opening game, Fairleigh Dickinson would post wins of 25-10, 25-18, 25-16 over the ensuing three sets to help secure the Devils' 18th win of the year.
Ranck would provide 27 assists and two aces in the loss while Calderan added 13 kills. Plank chipped in with nine kills and 16 digs and Rebekah Morrison contributed five block assists on the defensive end.
The Crimson Eagles will turn to postseason play this weekend when the group hosts the East Region Tournament in the Mason Activity Center. PBU will take on the winner of Valley Forge Christian College versus Lancaster Bible College at 2:00 pm.
