LANGHORNE, PA - It took all 40 minutes of regulation and every second of a five minute overtime period to decide a winner during PBU's meeting with the College of Notre Dame Thursday night.
A last second heave from 35 feet out at the end of the extra session from PBU sophomore Careth Herron clanged the back iron, leaving the Crimson Eagles just short during an 82-80 CSAC thriller.
Despite a 38-31 halftime lead, PBU couldn't hold off a furious Gator comeback as Notre Dame went on a 9-0 tear with 5:35 left in the contest and the Crimson Eagles up 70-60. PBU would score just one point over the five minute span as the Gators would eventually even the count at 71 all to force OT.
PBU would go down by eight early in the extra session but would mount a spurt that would have the hosts within three with 43 ticks to play. Forced to foul the Gators in the waning moments, Notre Dame would manage to keep a two point lead with eight seconds left when a missed free throw led to a Careth Herron defensive board.
Herron would fight off two defenders while dribbling the length of the court over the ensuing seven seconds and would heave up a 35-foot prayer as time expired.
It clanked back rim.
Notre Dame escaped with their fourth conference win of the year following the PBU miss while the Crimson Eagles slip to 1-5 in CSAC action.
Dani Norton dropped 26 points in the loss while Summer Mullen added 21 in 44 minutes of work. Careth Herron connected on four of eight shots for the day, adding 13 points and five boards.
PBU will return to the hardwood on Saturday to take on Keystone Colelge at 2:00 pm.
