Alvernia Acts as Spoiler

PBU struggled to get things rolling in their season opener in Langhorne Wednesday afternoon. The Crimson Eagles fell to Alvernia, 9-0.
Box Score

Langhorne, PA - Yes, season openers aren't generally supposed to begin like this and yes, the final result happened to be somewhat lopsided. But, nonetheless, the future still remains bright for the Crimson Eagle women's tennis team.

PBU's 9-0 loss to Alvernia College to begin their season Wednesday afternoon might serve as a downer for some. But with three of PBU's top six players competing in their first ever collegiate match, rough bumps - especially early on - are probably to be expected.

The Crimson Eagles were somewhat overwhelmed by the Crusaders' court presence from the start. Alvernia began play by dropping all three doubles matches by counts of 8-1, 8-2, and 8-2.

Unfortunately, much of the same story slowly unfolded in singles play. All six PBU competitors were upended by Alvernia, with all six matches swiftly ending in two games.

PBU’s young crop of players will look to bounce back this Saturday in their second consecutive contest in Langhorne. The tennis team will take on Polytechnic University at 1:00 p.m.
