LANGHORNE, PA - Saturday's contest against Cedar Crest College was PBU's official initiation into CSAC competition. But as the Crimson Eagles soon found out, the Falcons' weren’t the most welcoming of opponents.
Cedar Crest College ran past PBU 9-0 in Langhorne Saturday afternoon, giving the Falcons’ their second consecutive sweep of the season. The Crimson Eagles have yet to find the winning column, falling in their first three contests of the season by a similar count of 9-0.
At the number one singles position, Falcon junior Maria Mallery upended first-year player Katelynn Wilson, 6-2, 6-0, while sophomore Alex Kuebler tallied a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over PBU junior Jocelyn Palmer in number two singles action. Cedar Crest Junior Laura Shivley played Danielle Hirsch to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the number three spot, while junior Sara Messner went the distance with a 6-1, 6-0 over Crimson Eagle rookie Bethany McCormack. Sophomore Amy Dichter defeated Jen Friedman 6-0, 6-0, while Sarah Schopf wrapped up a singles sweep at the number six singles position with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jennifer Rosol as well.
Mallery and Kuebler dished Wilson and Palmer an 8-4 loss in doubles play, and Shivley and Messner managed an 8-0 sweep over the Hirsch and Rosol. Dichter and Schopf posted an 8-1 win at the number three doubles spot over Friedman and McCormick.
The Falcons remain undefeated in CSAC play (2-0) with a 3-3 record overall. PBU falls to 03- (0-1 CSAC).
The Crimson Eagles will continue their quest for the first victory of the year on the road against Baptist Bible. The tennis team will take on the Defenders in Clarks Summit next Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
