LAKELAND, FL - Playing on consecutive days can sometimes lead to a slow start in the second game but that definitely wasn't the case for the Crimson Eagles today against Southeastern University. PBU jumped out to a 21-4 lead to start the game but couldn't hold on down the stretch, losing to the Fire today, 68-59.
It was a slow start that doomed the Crimson Eagles in last night's loss to Clearwater but today the team came out with energy and played well early, capitalizing on Southeastern mistakes to build a 37-26 halftime lead. However, in the second half it was a different game, as The Fire would come out of the locker room with renewed energy and jumped back into the game.
Rebounding was the difference in the game as the Fire gained numerous second chance opportunities in the second half by turning a 23-23 rebounding tie at halftime into a resounding 61-38 advantage by the end of the game.
Dani Norton led all scorers with 17 points. Lindsey Fornwalt added 14 points and 8 rebounds while Sara Poole netted 11 points for PBU. For the Fire, Amanda Hudson led in scoring with 16 points while Latesha McDonald poured in 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Norton and Fornwalt were both named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts during the two games this weekend.
The Crimson Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they open their CSAC schedule by hosting Cedar Crest College. Game time is 7:00 PM.
