LANGHORNE, PA - It finally came together. Behind the support of the Crimson Eagle faithful during the highly anticipated Crimson Celebration Saturday afternoon, the women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season in a 7-2 triumph over visiting Lancaster Bible College.
Several PBU athletes picked up not only their first team win at the collegiate level, but also their first individual victories on the afternoon in the well-deserved win.
Kicking things off in doubles action, Jen Friedman and Bethany McCormick defeated the Charger combo of Ashley Bell and Becky Griffes by a count of 8-1, while Danielle Hirsch and Jenni Rosol managed an 8-0 sweep at the expense of Seph LaPearl and Breanah Epps. PBU’s only loss in doubles came in the form of an 8-3 defeat that Kelsey Scott and Michelle Ringly handed the tandem of Katelynn Wilson and Jocelyn Palmer.
Up 2-1 to kick off singles play, Katelynn Wilson carded her fourth solo win of the season downing Michelle Ringly 6-2, 6-1. Laura Wronski finished as the only PBU singles victim, narrowly falling to Kelsey Scott 7-5, 6-4, while Junior Jocelyn Palmer continued her wave of momentum, picking up her second straight singles triumph in a 6-0 sweep of Ashley Bell at the number three spot.
Three Crimson Eagles collected their first individual college wins in the back end of singles action. Jen Friedman managed her first ever victory at the number four singles spot after downing Steph LaPearl 6-0, 6-2. Danielle Hirsch joined Friedman in the first collegiate victory category after Hirsch’s 6-2, 6-0 drubbing over Becky Griffes, while Jennifer Rosol came out on top in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
The win helps improve PBU’s record to 1-8 on the season, while Lancaster Bible – in their first year of competition – falls to 1-8.
The Crimson Eagles begin a three game road swing Monday afternoon at Cabrini College. PBU will take on the Cavaliers in a conference showdown at 3:30 pm.
