PBU disposes of future PAC rival

Williams helps PBU to 3-0 sweep over Gwynedd Mercy

LANGHORNE, PA - The women's volleyball team steamrolled to victory early Saturday morning, successfully rebounding after their disappointing loss to Villa Julie College late Thursday night. The Crimson Eagles overpowered Gwynedd-Mercy College in three consecutive sets by scores of 30-28, 30-19, and 30-28.

After rolling to an early 11-4 lead, the Griffins came roaring back and eventually notched things at 28-28 until PBU rattled off the last two points to take the first game. PBU controlled the second set from start to finish to grab a 2-0 advantage, but the third game proved to be a slightly more difficult as Gwynedd-Mercy again rallied from behind deep in final set to even things at 28 apiece before bowing down in the final minutes.

PBU senior captain Becky Williams led the way in almost every statistical category, finishing with 15 kills, 16 digs, and three total blocks. Sophomore Kay Lynn Zeiset, senior Angie Kresge, and junior Katy Kutzner combined for 33 digs between the trio while Kutzner and senior Natalie Nolt both helped aid the offensive attack, each finishing with 12 kills.

With the win, the Crimson Eagles improve to 28-7 overall while Gwynedd-Mercy falls to 8-20 for the year.

PBU will play in their second match of the day when they take on visiting City College of New York later this afternoon at 3:00 pm. The match will be a great test for the Crimson Eagles as the Beavers enter the contest with an overall record of 22-5.
