Collazo, Doughty II Take Home CSAC Awards

Aston, PA - The Colonial States Athletic Conference has announced its 2015-16 men's basketball end of season awards, with Julian Collazo winning Rookie of the Year and Gerroid Doughty II on the Second Team. These awards include Player, Coach and Rookie of the Year, the All-CSAC teams and the CSAC Sportsmanship Team.

Rosemont College senior Marcus Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) was voted the 2015-16 CSAC Player of the Year. Thomas is the first Rosemont men's basketball player to earn this distinction and ends a run of six straight years in which the award was bestowed upon a men's basketball player from Cabrini College. A starter in all 25 games for Rosemont, Thomas leads the CSAC in scoring (21.6 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg). He has also contributed 47 three-pointers, 32 steals and 138 rebounds, all while averaging 31.4 minutes per outing. Thomas led the Ravens (12-13) to the No. 4 seed in the 2015-16 CSAC playoffs and a 10-8 mark in conference contests.

Cairn University freshman Julian Collazo (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was the coaches' choice for the 2015-16 CSAC Rookie of the Year. He becomes the first Cairn men's basketball player to earn CSAC Rookie of the Year honors. A starter in all 25 games for the Highlanders, Collazo registered 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in his first collegiate season. He also chipped in 28 steals and 65 assists and led the Highlanders with a .496 field goal percentage (133-of-268) while averaging a team-best 32.3 minutes per night. Cairn finished the season with a record of 10-15, after winning just three games the year before, and doubled its CSAC victories, posting a 6-12 mark.

Gwynedd Mercy University's John Baron was awarded conference Coach of the Year accolades, marking the second time Baron has won this honor (also in 2003-04). Baron led the Griffins to a 17-1 CSAC record and the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in this week's CSAC playoffs. Gwynedd Mercy, which has posted a 19-6 overall record this season, leads the CSAC in scoring average at 87.0 points per game. Baron, who has won more CSAC contests in league history than any other men's basketball coach (177), is the second men's basketball coach from Gwynedd Mercy to be named CSAC Coach of the Year (Kevin Newsome, 1998-99). Riding a five-game winning streak heading into the CSAC playoffs, Gwynedd Mercy is in search of its first CSAC men's basketball title since 2008-09.
